What is the Challenge?
The Leucan 12-Hour Ski Challenge is an annual fundraising activity for skiers and snowboarders. Each team of four must raise $400 in donations for Leucan. It is the total amount raised by the team and not by the individuals that allows the team to participate to the Challenge. The Challenge is a friendly activity for the whole family and for skiers and snowboarders of all ages. Each team member must do a minimum of one descent per hour for 12 consecutive hours, from noon to midnight. The descents cannot be cumulated (for example, 12 descents in 6 hours)
In 2012, you can participate in six regions:

How the Leucan 12-Hour Ski Challenge started
In 2006, Serge Tremblay, founder of the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge, and Jean-François Perreault met the parents of little Edgar Sirhan-Gibson who was battling cancer. This meeting was the starting point for the first edition of the 12-Hour Ski Challenge to support Leucan. The event organizers – Mia Sirhan, Thierry Gibson, Jocelyn Sirhan and Serge Tremblay – dedicated this event to the memory of Edgar Sirhan-Gibson, who passed away at the tender age of 18 months.
As well as a fundraising activity, the 12-Hour Ski Challenge is also a gesture of solidarity towards the families living with children who have cancer. It is a way to tell these families that they are not alone in their battle.

Many celebrities supported the 12-Hour Ski Challenge as spokespersons: Andréa Bédard in 2006 (Olympian in Giant Slalom and Canadian champion), Stefie Shock in 2007, Eric Salvail in 2008 and 2009. For Leucan’s 30th anniversary in 2009, Simple Plan gave an outdoor concert at Ski Bromont.
The story of a little boy named Edgar
When Edgar was born, he was perfect: two eyes, two ears, two arms, ten fingers, two legs, two feet and ten toes. He had everything to live a full life…so we thought. We saw the future with him: skiing, his first day of school, his first girlfriend, even the children he would someday have. But all these dreams crumbled on August 23, 2005, when we learned that Edgar had cancer. He was only 11 months old. We realized that day that drama can strike anyone at any time.
The months following the diagnosis of this horrible disease were extremely difficult for him…and for us. The doctors tried every treatment available to cure his cancer. Unfortunately, they could not save his life. On March 18, 2006, Edgar became an angel at the tender age of 18 months.
Our story says how important it is to give money to help science advance and to support families who must face such an ordeal as the cancer of their child. Event though, the medical world evolves quickly, the existing treatments, equipment and medicine are not enough to treat and save the lives of all our children.
Whether you give $5, $10, $20, $40, $100, the amount does not matter because each dollar counts! Join in and give according to your budget, ask your friends and family to give to the 12-Hour Ski Challenge. Together, we can help save lives and support families of children with cancer.
Once again this year we sky in Edgar’s memory!
